Upgrade your existing BHS-W web cleaner to effective, energy-efficient Corrucleaner® technology
For corrugated board producers using a BHS corrugator equipped with a BHS-W web cleaner, Weducon offers a practical conversion from the original BHS-W system to double-sided Corrucleaner® web cleaning.
The BHS-W Conversion Kit replaces the existing — in many cases single-sided — cleaner with a double-sided Corrucleaner®, while using the original installation position and mounting points. This allows the original line integration to be retained as much as possible, with limited impact on the corrugator.
With Corrucleaner® systems now used as the standard web-cleaning solution on new BHS corrugators, the kit gives existing BHS users a practical way to bring older BHS-W installations up to today’s web-cleaning standard.
Why consider replacing a BHS-W web cleaner?
BHS-W systems are mostly single-sided, and for corrugated board production, this matters because contamination is not limited to one side of the board.
Dust, brush fibres and particles from slitting, cutting and handling can remain on the board surface and travel downstream into printing and converting processes.
In stacked sheets, contamination on the underside of one sheet affects the clean top side of the previous sheet. The BHS-W analysis specifically notes this issue for single-sided cleaning and highlights brush-particle contamination on the sheet.
At the same time, corrugated board manufactures are under increasing pressure to reduce waste, cleaning stops, energy use and quality-related losses. A double-sided Corrucleaner upgrade addresses these issues directly at the source: the moving corrugated board surface.
Key benefits of the BHS-W Conversion Kit
- Upgrade from single-sided to double-sided web cleaning
- Reduce compressed-air dependency
- Improve dust and particle removal before downstream processes
- Retain the existing BHS-W installation position
- Keep the original BHS safety provisions in place
- Use existing mounting points; no drilling required
- Maintain access to the slitters through the original hinged frame
- Leave space for the existing trim extraction system
- Conversion possible within a planned weekend installation window
- Control integration by BHS, or by Weducon’s AIG
From compressed-air cleaning to efficient non-contact Corrucleaner technology
The original BHS-W system uses compressed air as part of its cleaning and ionizing principle. The technical data in the BHS-W analysis lists a pneumatic consumption of 110 m³/h for a single-sided cleaner. In continuous operation, this represents a substantial operating cost. This can amount to approximately €20,000 per year for compressed air during 24/5 operation for 51 weeks. When you use a double-sided BHS-W this amount also doubles.
The Corrucleaner uses Weducon’s non-contact web cleaning principle: controlled airflow, vacuum extraction and ionization positioned inside the cleaner, where it supports the release and removal of dust and particles from the substrate surface.
This means the conversion is not only a cleaning-performance upgrade, but also a way to reduce the dependence on compressed air in the dry-end, and a significant decrease in energy use.

Designed for practical installation on existing BHS corrugators
Weducon developed this conversion kit for BHS corrugators that have a BHS-W web cleaner position. This is important because the original BHS-W unit requires a fixed installation space; the BHS-W analysis notes that retrofitting the original unit into a line without a reserved position is often difficult or not possible.
Where the BHS-W position is already present, the conversion kit can use that position as the basis for the upgrade.
Practical integration advantages
- The existing web guiding remains unchanged
- The original BHS safety features remain in use
- The original hinged frame for access to the slitters is refitted without modification
- The support frame for the pipework is mounted on existing fixing points
- The installation leaves sufficient space for the existing trim extraction system
- The final integration closely follows the current BHS original setup
Where sound enclosures, additional guarding or site-specific provisions are installed, Weducon assesses the installation per corrugator.
Double-sided cleaning where it matters most
In corrugated production, the dry-end, especially slitting and cutting, generates dust and particles. When you remove this contamination before it reaches printing or converting, it helps reduce:
- printing defects
- plate cleaning stops
- dust-related claims
- contamination in downstream machines
- avoidable waste and restarts
- unnecessary wear caused by abrasive dust and particles
A double-sided Corrucleaner removes contamination from both sides of the board before it travels further into the production process.
The BHS-W conversion kit: a retrofit aligned with PPWR-driven production goals
The PPWR is increasing the focus on material efficiency, waste prevention and recyclable packaging. For corrugated board producers, that makes process stability increasingly important.
Because every rejected sheet, cleaning stop or avoidable restart has already consumed paper, energy, machine time and labour. Preventing dust-related defects and reducing cleaning interruptions supports a more efficient use of materials and production capacity.
The BHS-W Conversion Kit helps existing BHS users improve board cleanliness without turning the upgrade into a major modification project.
Ready to upgrade to effective, energy-efficient cleaning?
The BHS-W Conversion Kit gives BHS corrugator users a practical route to move from – in many cases – single-sided BHS-W to double-sided Corrucleaner, while significantly reducing compressed-air consumption and improving cleaning performance.
